Like Joseph, Jesus was Sent to Check the Shepherds, was Conspired Against, then Seated in a Place of Power

Genesis 37:12-36

  • Like Jospeh, Jesus was sent to check on the ministers and the flock they fed.
  • Like Jospeh, Jesus was conspired against for bringing reform as the Son of God.
  • Like Joseph, Jesus was put in a wilderness pit to isolate Him from dignity and respect.
  • Like Jospeh, Jesus was betrayed for worldly advantage.
  • Like Joseph’s story explains, the blood of Jesus was shed by the hands of schemers.
  • Like Joseph’s Father, God mourns the death of His Son.
  • God’s not dead, no He is alive.

Like Jospeh, Jesus was sent to check on the ministers and the flock they fed. Before Jesus Christ came, there was a ministry set in place to feed the flock of the Israelites until the Messiah arrived, as represented through Joseph’s brothers, “Then his brothers went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.” Genesis 37:12 The “brothers” of Jesus Christ were the Jewish leaders. The day came when God made the decision to send Jesus to check on the leaders who were feeding the flock, which were the Pharisees and Sadducees. Jesus went willingly, knowing what His destiny would be, Joseph is a representation of Jesus Christ, “And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” So he said to him, “Here I am.” Genesis 37:13 As we know from the four Gospels of the New Testament, Jesus came to set in order the church leadership and to maintain the welfare of the people who were fed by them, “Then he said to him, “Please go and see if it is well with your brothers and well with the flocks and bring back word to me.” So he sent him out of the Valley of Hebron, and he went to Shechem.” Genesis 37:14. The report that Jesus brings to His Father will be read on the day of judgment. The ministers in the churches of today will be in that judgment to give account of how they have fed the flock according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Like Jospeh, Jesus was conspired against for bringing reform as the Son of God. When Jesus Christ came, He did not find His Jewish “brothers” (the Pharisees and Sadducees) in the place where they were expected to be, and the flock was with them, “Now a certain man found him, and there he was, wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying, “What are you seeking?” So he said, “I am seeking my brothers. Please tell me where they are feeding their flocks.” Genesis 37:15-16. That also speaks of the churches of today, they are not in the vicinity of the testimony of Christ, and they have the congregation with them. They have embraced the practices of humanism empowered by the mark of the beast, “And the man said, “They have departed from here, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them in Dothan.” Genesis 37:17 As we know from the New Testament, the leadership of the churches conspired to kill Jesus Christ because of His reforms as the Son of God. It’s just like the churches of today which has no belief in His Deity and conspires to kill the Gospel of Christ, “Now when they saw him afar off, even before he came near them, they conspired against him to kill him. Then they said to one another, “Look, this master of dreams is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!” Genesis 37:18-20

Like Joseph, Jesus was put in a wilderness pit to isolate Him from dignity and respect. The last-days meaning of the name of Reuben (Genesis 49:1-4) refers to the ministry being good in the beginning but was unstable as water and would never succeed. It relates to defiling God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. It was Reuben’s idea not to kill Jospeh but to throw him in a pit in the wilderness. That is what the Pharisee and Sadducee “brothers” of Jesus did when they tried to isolate Him from the masses by threatening them with severe legal consequences. That is also what is happening to the teachings of Christ and the followers of Christ who are isolated from the social network of those who live for the mark of the beast. Isolation in a wilderness pit is a tactic used to stop the Gospel from spreading within a Christless society, “But Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands, and said, “Let us not kill him.” And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit, which is in the wilderness, and do not lay a hand on him”—that he might deliver him out of their hands and bring him back to his father.” Genesis 37:21-22 Part of being isolated in the wilderness pit is to strip a person of their dignity, any sense of self-esteem, and to make them feel degraded in their service to Jesus Christ. That is happening to the Christians of today, and is what was done to Joseph when they stripped him of his coat of many colors, and is what the Pharisee and Sadducee “brothers” of Jesus did to Him, “So it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colors that was on him. Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it.” Genesis 37:23-24 There is not one drop of water of the Gospel of Christ and no respect nor dignity given to those in the wilderness pit.

Like Jospeh, Jesus was betrayed for worldly advantage. When the Christless brothers of Joseph sat down to eat, they did not lift their eyes up to God in prayer, they lifted their eyes up to see the opportunity to prosper materially, “And they sat down to eat a meal. Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishmaelites, coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing spices, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry them down to Egypt.” Genesis 37:25. This present system of government is all about the rewards of money, possessions, physical comforts, and economic development. Those are the rewards for living by the mark of the beast in the name of humanism. The lively and wealthy churches of today have sold-out Christ in exchange for the prosperity given to them for embracing the “community family” frame of mind. Judah was against killing Joseph, and the last days meaning of his name (Genesis 49) iss a very good one, he was interested in keeping Jospeh alive, “So Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh.” And his brothers listened.” Genesis 37:26-27. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers for twenty shekels of silver, in the same way that Jesus Christ was betrayed by His Jewish “brothers” for thirty pieces of silver, and the same way that the churches of Christ have sold Him for worldly advantage. “Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.” Genesis 37:28 (The Midianites were the Ishmaelites)

Like Joseph’s story explains, the blood of Jesus was shed by the hands of schemers. Jesus Christ could not be contained in the wilderness pit, which was designed to strip Him of His dignity and following. His followers continued to grow and multiply in numbers and His name spread everywhere. His Pharisee and Sadducee “brothers” were mortified that He was no more in the wilderness pit. That is the representation made through Joseph, “Then Reuben returned to the pit, and indeed Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes. And he returned to his brothers and said, “The lad is no more; and I, where shall I go?” Genesis 37: 29-30 The rise of Jesus Christ is the end of corrupt church leaders, where can they go? They decided to shed blood in an effort to salvage their worldly authority and prosperity. The blood of the kid of goats symbolizes the blood that Jesus shed on the Cross for the atonement of sin. The blood on the tunic of many colors represents Christ dying as the prestigious Son of God. “So they took Joseph’s tunic, killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the tunic in the blood. Then they sent the tunic of many colors, and they brought it to their father and said, “We have found this. Do you know whether it is your son’s tunic or not?” Genesis 37:31-32 Blasphemy of all blasphemy, they make a mockery of God by openly showing the killing in His sight. Those who govern by the mark of the beast mock God by openly killing the teachings of the Bible and those who live for Jesus Christ. That is happening is the churches of today.

Like Joseph’s Father, God mourns the death of His Son. God recognizes His Son Jesus Christ as the royalty sent to shed His blood to atone for sin. God also recognizes as wild beasts those who have conspired against Him and have torn Him to pieces. “And he recognized it and said, “It is my son’s tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces.” Genesis 37:33. Today, those who live by the mark of the beast thrive on the death of the Gospel of Christ and have scattered and torn to pieces His followers. The mourning of God for His Son Jesus is seen through the promises of judgment that comes to those who reject Him and put Him to death on a daily basis. This present world will have no peace, but only tribulation, and there is eternal torment after death for those who oppose Him. Like Jacob, God mourns for His Son, “Then Jacob tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days.” Genesis 37:34. Today, there are many, many names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life who are destined for eternal life. Even then, that will not comfort God enough to stop His judgments from coming against those who detest the name of Jesus Christ. “And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” Thus his father wept for him.” Genesis 37:35 In His mourning, God went down to the grave of His Son Jesus Christ and lifted Him to life, and Jesus lives eternally with Him.

God’s not dead, no He is alive. This world, in their humanistic beliefs empowered by the mark of the beast, have no belief in anything beyond the grave. The Divine meaning of the Bible and Jesus Christ is dead to them, but He is alive and powerful today. While the Jewish “brothers” of Jesus Christ counted Him as good as dead after His crucifixion on the Cross, God raised Him from the grave after three days, and now He lives eternally. He is the eternal Priest and King of kings. Joseph, who is a representation of Jesus, was presumed dead but he was lifted from the pit and raised to be a great and powerful leader, “Now the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.” Genesis 37:36

“I know God’s not dead, he’s still alive
I know God’s not dead, he’s still alive
God’s not dead, he’s still alive
I can feel Him in my hands, I can feel Him in my feet
I can feel Him all over me.”

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25
