1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 also speaks on the day of the Lord.
The Day of the Lord comes at the end of enormous tribulation. “Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, and your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. Zechariah 14:1-3
The Day of the Lord is associated with the return of Jesus Christ, and that is exactly part of that glorious day. The Day of the Lord is also a day of judgment against Israel.
The judgment against the State of Israel comes through the United Nations (global government of the beast). Already, the United Nations has branded them as an international outlaw because of the use of police and military force in the region, specifically relating to the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. It will get much worse for Israel as they days progress under the global government of the beast. The Israelis have already been ransacked, the city captured, and the women ravished by the thing which forms what they do, feel, think, and say. It enables the image of the beast to live and speak through them and by what they say and do they are indoctrinated to the global culture of the beast. They are conformed to their mark in life as they are groomed to the mark of the beast.
During the devastation of Israel, half of the Israelis will flee to find safety in another territory, but the other half remains in Israel. During that destruction, chaos, and confusion the Lord Jesus comes back to fight against His enemies. The enemies of Israel are the enemies of God, and when the State of Israel is devasted by the power and force of the global government, the return of Jesus Christ comes after that. In fact, the return of Jesus Christ comes after the Battle of Armageddon, so we know the devastation of Israel is closely related to that. That is also a period when the followers of Jesus Christ are scattered, severely persecuted, abused in every way imaginable, and murdered in “cold blood.” There will be a remnant who remains faithful to the testimony of Jesus through it all.
“You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the Holy ones with him.” Zechariah 14:5
The tribulation in the world, which leads to the Battle of Armageddon, is brought on as a result of living for the thing which forms what people think, feel, do, and say. It has no use for the Holy Spirit and blasphemes His presence. It rejects the need for the remission of sin through Jesus Christ and denies the existence of God. They honor the creature human being while rejecting God the Creator. The thing forming thoughts and feelings enables the image of the beast to live and speak through people and by what they say and do they are hostile to the Good News of God’s goodness. They are conformed to the “democratic” global culture as they are groomed to the mark of the best.
The Day of the Lord ushers in the New Jerusalem.
The glory of God and the Light of the Lamb illuminates the New Jerusalem. “It shall come to pass in that day that there will be no light; The lights will diminish. It shall be one day which is known to the Lord—Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen that it will be light.” Zechariah 14:6-7 Through Zechariah, the Holy Spirit is describing the New Jerusalem, as quoted, “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light,” Revelation 21:23-24
The New Jerusalem is a wonderful city that doesn’t follow the natural order. There is always light, but that light is not the sun, moon, nor stars. The light is the light of the Lord 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
The Water of Life flows freely in the New Jerusalem. And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; In both summer and winter it shall occur.” Zechariah 14:8 The Holy Spirit is describing the eternal waters of life within the New Jerusalem, as quoted, “And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.” Revelation 21:6-7
The living waters never freeze nor evaporate.
There is only One God who goes by the name of Jesus and He rules over the New Jerusalem. And the Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be—“The Lord is one,” And His name one.” Zechariah 14:9 There is only one God and He is revealed to us through the name of His Son Jesus Christ. Anyone in this world who calls on His name will be saved and inherit eternal life in the New Jerusalem, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Jesus Christ is coming back as King of kings, as quoted, “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” Revelation 11:15
Believers will live eternally in the newly constructed New Jerusalem. “All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place from Benjamin’s Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. The people shall dwell in it; And no longer shall there be utter destruction, but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.” Zechariah 14:10-11
The Jerusalem spoken about in the verse above is the New Jerusalem of the new heaven and earth. All who come to God through Jesus Christ will be resurrected from the dead and live there eternally. The dimensions of the New Jerusalem are spoken about in Revelation 21 and partially quoted in the verses below,
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.
Revelation 21:10-13
The Day of the Lord plagues His enemies with nuclear fallout type of effects. “And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem:
Flesh, eyes, and tongue of people dissolves while still alive. Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, and their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.” Zechariah 14:12
Sometime in 1945 the nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At that time, the world witnessed the devastating effects of nuclear fallout on the human body. That was seventy-eight years ago, almost a century ago. Since that time, the world powers have developed bioweapons more fearful than what we could ever imagine. Chemical weapons could be dropped from a bomb or perhaps unleashed onto the world from a bio-lab.
Bioweapons are extremely destructive to the human body, and towards the very end of the tribulation, when this world has fallen totally into destruction, that type of plague is unleashed. As a judgment of God, through the hands of a spiritually wicked world, it affects the enemies of God and His Son Jesus Christ, the same enemies who come against Israel and Christianity. They will be alive when their flesh, eyes, and tongue dissolve. Those who suffer that plague are those who live and govern by the thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and say. As followers of Christ, we come out from among them.
“Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her.
Revelation 18:4-6
Panic ensues and violence breaks out. “It shall come to pass in that day That a great panic from the Lord will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, and raise his hand against his neighbor’s hand;” Zechariah 14:13
Bioweapons definitely have an effect on the nervous system. There is no doubt that just seeing self, or another person, dissolve would cause a lot of panic. It will be such a harrowing time that just touching another person will spark rage and violence. Nobody would want to risk being infected with a flesh-eating bioweapon.
The people suffering the dissolving of their body are those who do not have the peace which Jesus Christ gives because they lived their life blaspheming the Holy Spirit and mocking God.
Infighting within Israel ensues, and the United Nations gathers all wealth to themselves. “Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance.” Zechariah 14:14
Unfortunately for those of Israel who strayed from God and rejected Jesus Christ, they will be among those suffering the effects of the flesh-eating plague. Today, Judah is part of the West Bank territory and Jerusalem is divided between East and West. That same territory will be filled with intense in-fighting and rage on the Day of the Lord.
During the time of a national emergency, we have already seen how the United Nations pools resources to help communities to overcome pandemics. In the case of a severe bioweapon attack, there is no doubt that the global government of the beast (United Nations) would be gathering the wealth of all the available nations. The verse above mentions the gathering of apparel in great abundance along with the wealth. We can safely assume it would be the apparel of protective gear to try to ward off the flesh-eating plague. They will do whatever they can to try to save whatever is left of their collapsed government.
Animals are affected by the nuclear fallout type stuff the same as people. “Such also shall be the plague on the horse and the mule, on the camel and the donkey, and on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be.” Zechariah 14:15
The Day of the Lord brings eternal life and judgment. “And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.” Zechariah 14:16
Everyone around the world who remains faithful to the testimony of Jesus Christ while walking through this world will inherit eternal life. We “…will go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord Jesus Christ,” The verse above is specifically speaking about the very last Christians on this earth who remain faithful to Jesus Christ. They are the ones who are on the earth after the opening of the Seven Seals, after six of the Seven Trumpets sound, and after six of the Seven Plagues are unleashed. The Seventh Trumpet and Seventh Plague is when the Lord Jesus returns.
The Feast of the Tabernacles celebrates God’s care of the Israelites while they were in the wilderness. That symbolizes God’s care of us through Jesus Christ who gives us the Holy Spirit as we walk through the wilderness of this world. While in the wilderness, they set up tents in which to live. That symbolizes the followers of Christ living in the tents of our body where His Holy Spirit lives. The symbolism of the Feast of Tabernacle is especially meaningful in today’s world where the churches have tossed out the Gospel of Christ. It is also especially meaningful for the very last Christians who live on this earth.
“And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain.” Zechariah 14:17 Those who refuse to come to God through Jesus Christ will not receive the comfort of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit within us is the reassurance of eternal life.
“If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.” Zechariah 14:18 The very last people living on this earth, who continue to reject Jesus Christ after all of the tribulation on earth, will suffer the plague. It is the plague of the dissolving of the flesh, eyes, and tongue.
“This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.“ Zechariah 14:19 The final punishment of all those who refuse live for Jesus and dedicate their body as the home of the Holy Spirit will suffer eternal torment in hell. Today, they are the ones who have made their body the home of the thing which forms what they think, feel, do, and say. They welcome the image of the beast to live and speak through them. They are groomed to the mark of the beast.
Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,
“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.
He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
Revelation 14:9-11
The Day of the Lord is Holiness to the Lord. “In that day “HOLINESS TO THE LORD” shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar.” Zechariah 14:20 Holiness is the opposite of sin, and because of the Holiness of God, sin is not tolerated. Only through Jesus Christ can we be considered right with God as our sin is forgiven through Him. Anyone can come to Jesus Christ to have our sin blotted out, “He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,” Titus 3:5 We walk with bells of Holiness ringing as the bowl of our soul is cleansed by the Spirit.
“Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 14:21a. Every person in the New Jerusalem, within the new heaven and earth, will be Holiness to the Lord. That includes all of the redeemed from the Jewish people and all of the Christians. “Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 14:21b. Everyone who sacrifices their life within the ways of this world, and carries the cross daily, will be a useful vessel to God. No sinners will be in the New Jerusalem. No one will be in Heaven who rejects Jesus Christ.
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:1
