It seems like when we say just one word out-of-place, just one word, it is the only word heard out of a thousand inspiriting words that we speak. Some people purposely choose to highlight and single-out that one-word-quote for the purpose of tearing down those who seek to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. They are out to kill. steal. and destroy faith in God, just like Satan! They watch for mistakes, errors, and missteps in order to pull you down. They are scorners who are very, very scornful towards people who contribute love, peace, joy, and faithfulness through faith in what Jesus Christ has done for us on the Cross for the remission of sin and infilling of the Holy Spirit. They attempt to entrap people who watch the gate of their soul and spirit to make the Spirit of Christ dominant in their behavior. The Holy Spirit, through Isaiah has a word for those people of treachery; “For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.”
“My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor lists. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.” James 3:1-12
When we come to accept what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross, it is all about grace, mercy, and second-chances for a soul and spirit filled with pure intentions. Holiness is all about the purity of spirit and soul without self-condemnation and without condemning others for a slip of the tongue. A slip-of-the-tongue is very much different than a deliberate tearing down of a good, loving, joyful, pure, and innocent person! There is no shame in attempting to do and say right things, although there are many who want you to feel ashamed of the values we hold through the Spirit of Jesus Christ. The whole idea in the life of Holiness is to sanctify the name of God and to sanctify the Holy One who gives to us the Holy Spirit. As we take up our Cross to follow Jesus Christ, we keep our focus on the what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross for the resurrection of fellowship with the Spirit of God. We are justified in the eyes of God because we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that his Son, Jesus Christ, is Lord and Savior.
“Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. But when he sees his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.”
There are many people who might be “all together” in the eyes of other people, they may have all their “ducks in a row” according to political correctness, but they err in spirit. It is in the spirit that we have fellowship with the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ. Murmuring against those who are not politically correct is to err in spirit. Now, because of what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross, for the remission of sin, our spirit is made right with the Spirit of God. By the Spirit of Christ Jesus we begin to understand and to learn the doctrine taught by the Holy Spirit. “They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.”
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23
“For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. But when he sees his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel. They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.” Isaiah 29:20-24
