The World Gives Deep Sleep, Jesus Christ Enlivens the Spirit

When the world opposes faith in God, they oppose everything that nourishes the soul and spirit. God is Spirit, therefore the only way to be in touch with God is through our spirit. The modern god of knowledge, in this technological age, disregards the feeding of the spirit and soul. Any information coming from that source of knowledge will not positively reinforce the presence of the Holy Spirit, nor will it support the message of the Cross of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. In fact, they will even hurl negativity for espousing life in the spirit that fills the soul with joy, goodness, and faith. Their technological society does not function by human factors, such as the spirit, and does not function through God who lives in the human spirit. “God is Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

In reality, the only person we can rely on to feed our spirit and soul is Jesus Christ. Water is the source of life, and every living thing needs water in order to live. Without water, life drains away in a very short time! This is why Jesus Christ refers to Himself as the water of life, He sustains our spirit and soul with that life-sustaining source, which knowledge and data cannot do. Jesus Christ says; “But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14

Bread also nourishes the body, the same way that spiritual bread provides nourishment for the spirit and soul. Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life to nourish us and to enable our soul and spirit to grow through the Spirit of God. “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” Without faith in God, we disregard His Son Jesus Christ who is the Sustainer of the spirit and soul. Data and knowledge from the modern god of knowledge cannot fill the hunger and thirst of the soul.  “It shall even be as when an hungry man dreams, and, behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreams, and, behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.”

The nature of sin within the character of humanity is like the alcohol and drug epidemic that makes the spirit and soul sick. Those who live life without nourishing the spirit and soul are drunk but not with alcohol or drugs, they stagger but not because of alcohol or drugs. They are drunk with their quest for materialism, pleasures, prestige, flatteries, lusts of the eyes, cravings of the flesh, their ego, and their pride. Their spirit and soul is in a deep sleep, their eyes are closed, and the authorities over the people are therein included. “Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.”

“But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:17-20

Scripture Text
“And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.  Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.”  Isaiah 29:7-10
