“When in Rome do as the Romans do!” is a very worldly quote. Israel was living a similar version of that by implying, “When in the world do as those in the world does!” Israel, all through their history, even up to today, has never been able to compete toe to toe with the kingdoms of this world. Their strength has always been in their obedience to the Living God, reverence for the Ten Commandments, reliance on guidance from the Prophets who brought them the Word of God, having Godly Kings take them under their wings, and the Cross of Christ Jesus. The destiny of Israel has always been the New Jerusalem given to them by the Living God, not to be powerful by worldly standards. Because Israel had insisted on living by the standards of the world and for the ambitions of the flesh, God gave them a taste of holding their own against the world. There was no competition!
The nations of the world heard about Israel’s weakened physical, emotional, and mental state (caused by sin), and relating to their military capability, which was brought on by their rejection of the Living God. God lifted up a flag for all nations to see Israel, then hissed at them, maybe antagonized them in some way, and they came against Israel in a mighty way. Imagine all the fittest professional football players, all the fittest professional basketball players, all the fittest marathon runners, all the best of the best Olympians, and all drafted into the best of the best military regiments; this is what Israel had to contend with. By the standards of this physical world, Israel was facing impossible odds. There would be no David to slay the giant Goliath this time. Israel wanted to live by the standards of this world so God let them defend themselves by the standards of this world. By the standards of this world, Israel was like a high school football team playing in the Super Bowl! Without God, it was a gruesome defeat for Israel; As is written against the disobedience of God’s people; “in that day they (the unredeemed) will roar against them (Children of God) like the roaring of the sea: and if one look to the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.”
Today, our world is filled with the spirit of the anti-Christ. There is a phenomenal distribution of knowledge and information flowing from the modern god of this technological age. By the standards of this world they are built to the max in every way, and their defeat is way, way, beyond the reach of everyday citizens. As it is written; “in that day they (the unredeemed) will roar against them (Children of God) like the roaring of the sea: and if one look to the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.” There are many powerful miracles being performed by demonic activity. We know it is demonic activity because it seeks to silence, destroy, kill, and steal away the Spirit of the Living God, the Message of the Cross of Christ, and the presence of the Holy Ghost! That is exactly what Satan does, steals, kills, and destroys. Satan was defeated by Christ Jesus at the Cross, and our only hope comes from God. May He fill you with joy and peace because of your trust in Him. May your hope grow stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our home is not according to the standards of this world, otherwise we would be very weak in the eyes of the very powerful. Our Home is in the Kingdom of God, therefore we know how true it is that, “ God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” As Christ lives in us, we are not in competition with the physical aspects within the kingdom of this world, we rest in what Christ has done for us on the Cross. We are set apart from the standards and powers of this world to live according to the treasures and power that flows from the Kingdom of God. At the Cross, Jesus Christ washes away the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. There are no desires for rewards of this world that might entice us to compete for a prize we have no desire to win. The sin that covets to be something desirable, valiant, or popular in this world is rendered inactive, made dormant, and is unable to do nothing through us. Greater is He (Christ) who is in us then he who is of this world!
Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord!
“Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly: None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken: Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind: Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it. And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.” Isaiah 5:24-30
