I recall playing the whisper game. The one where a truth is shared by a whisper into the ear of the one next in line. After the secret is shared from ear to ear, through about ten people, the truth is badly disfigured and unrecognizable. It is like looking at a lump of dough that was left on the kitchen counter, then someone comes along and puts yeast in it, and it is so bloated that it is not the same lump of dough. That is an example of how situations get blown out of proportion. Rumors can be devastating. In fact, I know there are families who have fought other families over rumors that have spread through the “grapevine.” Often, it is written off as a “misunderstanding.” In recent times, sporting events erupt into fan to fan violence because of a “bad call” by the ref. Fans actually get trampled under the feet of other fans, and are hurt badly. What we do and say about others should be from kindness, love, and goodwill of the spirit of God.
Religion is like the whisper game. It is so full of yeast that it is barely recognizable from the original lump of dough from which it originated. The original truth begins by talking about how humanity fell into the sickness of sin. Then yeast is added to say that there is no redemption because human nature is what it is, we are sinners and that is all. The original truth of redemption of the sinful nature of man, through the blood shed by Christ on the Cross, is deformed by the yeast of the world. Redemption is now according to every person discovering their own salvation by the philosophy of “to each their own.” Satan is using this to steal, kill, and destroy lives. The original truth of coming into the presence of God, to experience the fruit of the Holy Spirit, is bloated to unrecognizable proportions. Now, “God” is the “Universe,” “Mother Nature,” ‘The Will of the Mind,” etc. etc. The yeast has been added and the world is bloated with unimaginable consequences, but reported through news sources everyday.
The simple whisper of truth, which should be shouted from the rooftop, is that Jesus Christ died on the Cross at Calvary to atone for the sinful nature of the flesh. Just as we are, we are justified to enter into the presence of God. No religion required. By Christ in us, the flesh is crucified with Christ to allow the fruit of the Holy Spirit to live in us. As Jesus said, thousands of people who come together to riot and trample one another is nothing more than Satan’s yeast of hypocrisy. “In the meantime, when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.” Luke 12:1
