Consider the turmoil of the people where the Ten Commandments, prayer, manger scenes, and other such symbols has been removed from schools and public property. Then consider what such cities as Jerusalem and Bethlehem must be suffering as the source of such symbols. The landscape of those cities is a plush 3-D story book of the birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. On December 6, 2017, the President of the United States announced that Jerusalem will be recognized as the capital of Israel and the U.S. Embassy will move there from Tel Aviv. “It’s a move that upends decades of U.S. policy. The President said in a White House speech that he’s “determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.” Haley, the United States Representative to the United Nations, had this to say to the United Nations: “Haley also went on to condemn the United Nations for its treatment of Israel and said the US will not stand by while Israel is attacked or be lectured by other countries about its position on Israeli’s and Palestinians. “Over many years the United Nations has outrageously been of the world’s foremost centers of hostility towards Israel.” The nations of the world are in an uproar at the respectful recognition given to the Holy City.
For Bible scholars, the declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has prophetic implications. It is a sign that the non-spiritual and Godless system of the Anti-Christ will maneuver even more aggressively to thwart the persistence of the children of God. Further signs include the obvious assault to the waters of the spiritual fruit to prohibit entry into the divine presence of the soul. The inward divinity is the Holy city, capital of the soul. The declaration by the United States to proclaim Jerusalem as the capital has sent tremors through the United Nations. The world is impacted. As the Holy City of the soul is under assault, so is Jerusalem which is the geographical Holy City. The spiritual warfare becomes more evident as time progresses, which is warfare for dominating thoughts, emotions, behavior, and spirit.
The Holy City is a place within us, as well as a geographical location on earth, and is an eternal destination. What is the common element of all three? The common element is the fruit of the spirit. In essence, the attitude one has towards spiritual qualities will also be the same attitude towards the goodness of inner life, the geographical epi-center of spiritual life, and the belief in an eternal destination. When the spirit of love, kindness, and goodwill are opposed, then so are inner desires for compassion. The geographical cities representing an humane purpose are put in chaos, and belief in eternal principles are ridiculed. The world begins to manifest with hatred, ill-intent, and cruelty. People will seek for hope inwardly, or seek refuge in the existence of an earthly city of hope, or focus their optimism on an eternal hope. Even as symbolic icons are removed from public property, there is also the ominous truth that faith, joy, and goodness are under assault. Opposition to the Holy City focus on other sources of positive energy while attempting to eradicate positive spiritual energy, destroy the 3-D story book within the geographical Holy City, as well as to disturb the belief in eternity. They want to fill the Holy City with pessimism, despair, and evil. Perseverance in the qualities of the Holy City, as well as self-control when spiritual icons are trampled, and patience when assaults to our spiritual integrity occurs is essential. Some people attempt to turn the internal holiness, as well as the geographical holy city, into a place of spiritual fatality through out-of-control behavior and impulsive reactions. They target the eternal spirit of the Holy City. A meek and gentle spirit of peace is essential to maintain inwardly as aggressive and harsh violence overwhelms the world. Such cities as Jerusalem and Bethlehem will be targeted for eradication of the pages of their 3-D story book of spiritual life. Terrorism is destructive to cultural symbolisms of spiritual unity. Some people desire to isolate the mind, emotions, and behavior from ideas of a tranquil and serene city within the context of eternity.
The Holy City is a fruitful city
Zechariah 8:12 ‘For there will be peace for the seed: the vine will yield its fruit, the land will yield its produce and the heavens will give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.
The Holy City is a sanctuary city.
Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” A sanctuary city, not a hideaway for criminals
The Holy City is the people’s city.
Isa 60:14: “and they shall call you The City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israell
The Holy City is God’s City
Ps. 132:13-14: “For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for His dwelling place: “This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.”
The Holy city is a city of Light.
Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
We can assess that the Holy City is a place within us, also an earthly location, and an eternal destination. The diagnosis is that some people intend to destroy the Holy City inwardly, on the earth, and the eternal destination. Even so, we plan to honor Holiness wherever it may be. We do that by giving place to the spiritual fruit within us, upon the earth, and in the future. We know our plan is successful when our spirit permeates with compassion, tranquility, fruitfulness, and endurance.
Some people will attempt to deny us the territory of the inward Holy City, and prohibit the recognition of a geographical Holy City, and to silence the awareness of the eternal City. They create anger, conflict, controversy, and violence towards sentiments flowering from the fruit of the spirit. Their intent is to disturb the peace, tranquility, and calm relating to spiritual qualities. They also utilize pessimism, sadness, and despair towards inner fruitfulness, respect for a Holy City on earth, and towards eternal hope. Their intent is to dry up the waters of joy, optimism, hope, and rejoicing towards spiritual goodness. Their interactions with others are bargaining processes to diminish the territory of the spiritual fruit. They seek dry, hardened, and spiritually depraved people to implement their social ideologies. They will never accept any territory of a Holy City whether it be inward, upon the earth, or an eternal destiny.
A group, population, or reservoir of people exist who share the same desire for the growth and spread of sentiments that oppose the Holy City. Wherever that city exists, they want to diminish and eventually eliminate it’s freedom to exist. They attack the Holy territory of each person’s inner life, they attack the geological existence of the Holy City, and they attack the hope of an eternal City. The attitudes that exit those reservoirs are obviously in opposition to the spiritual fruit. Those fruit are the common character of the internal, geographical, and eternal Holy City. The hostile attitudes are evident in what they say and do. With their behaviors they protest and attempt to block every effort to realize and recognize the qualities of the Holy City. With their words, they debate and argue against any sentiments of inward, earthly, or eternal spiritual worth. They utilize positive reinforcement of non-spiritual attitudes, while using negative feedback towards spiritual wholesomeness. Their intent is to modify behavior to accept worldly standards, minus constructive human interaction.
Attitudes that oppose the Holy City transfer through direct and indirect routes. Direct transference comes through power sources that demand loyalty to their authority, and do not tolerate authority from other sources. Thus, there is a power clash between those who conquer the world through modern technological advances, and those who overcome the world through the Holy City, the Capital of the soul. In order to set up world power, they are like silent serpents who strike with poison the authority of the Holy City inwardly, the geographical epi-center, and the eternal destiny. Indirect transference comes through those who succumb to the behavior modification tactics of direct influences. They receive physically positive rewards and experiences for opposing the spiritual nature of the Holy City. Their behavior reflects the influence of those directly transferring opposition to such things as public show of prayer, ten commandments, and other loyalty based on spiritual values. They attack inward spiritual experiences, belittle the relevance of the spiritual epi-center, and scoff at notions of eternal hope.
Recognition plays a very important part in all that we do in our life. Obviously, we avoid recognizing all our undesirable traits while trying to focus more on recognizing the aspects we desire. That process saves a lot of embarrassment while maintaining an optimistic attitude. Recognition or non-recognition of the Holy City functions in the same way. In fact, recognition functions from our desire for acceptance among others and to be esteemed by our peers. What is it about the internal Holy City, the geographical Holy City, and the eternal city that solicits so much debate about whether to recognize it or not? Much of it has to do with the formation of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that enters into our day to day life. Because all three aspects of the Holy City has a common theme, the spiritual fruit, our place of belonging and praise from others hinges on our relationship to the internal aspects of the fruit of the spirit. Some people will not recognize those people who espouse qualities that are favorable to the Holy City. Along with that lack of recognition exists the peril of disparagement, which isolates us from social integration and completely diminishes esteem from others. In essence, the attitude which opposes the Holy City enters us because we desire recognition. For the sake of feeling accepted and esteemed, some will abandon the fruit of the Holy City.
Being susceptible to hosting attitudes that oppose the Holy City is an internal and external occurrence. Often, the internal Holy City is not associated with the geographical Holy City. In other words, as people begin to diminish the importance of the epi-center of spiritual light, so too will be diminished the spiritual fruit within individuals. Thus, people follow the cultural trends of living life without humane compassion as they succumb to aggression towards spiritual light. Accordingly, the faith that motivates us towards the eternal city is replaced by the terminal occurrence of death. The susceptible host is influenced by the positive reinforcement of the natural human, and the negative feedback towards the spiritual dimensions. Their behavior is modified to oppose the internal Holy City, the geographical Holy City, as well as the eternal City.
We can interrupt the cycle that leads to the opposition of the Holy City. We do that by realizing the soft and moist inner qualities of the spiritual fruit are qualities of the Holy City. That realization is to acknowledge the geographical epi-center of spiritual light that teaches about the “internal kingdom.” We recognize the eternal city as we acknowledge love, kindness, goodwill, peace, meekness, gentleness, faith, joy, goodness, patience, self-control, and perseverance.
